Water safety pamphlets were handed out for reading in order to educate the children about staying safe around aquatic facilities.
KZN South Lifesaving Association’s Save-A-Life Day campaign event at Umlazi G swimming pool in district six was a huge success on 15 March.
Some eight schools attended and participated in this event and four buses were provided for them to attend this campaign which aimed to promote a healthy lifestyle, social cohesion and career development as well as water safety.
The school children competed in 100m, 200m and 500m swimming events.
The KZN Sharks Board donated R500 towards catering and its employee Swelihle Ndlovu conducted a water safety talk to the young children in attendance after an HIV talk was given by Nhla-Dlamini Ngcoya.
Old Mutual, Fast Track Surf Lifesaving Club and Tiger Fam dance group was also invited.
Nelly Hlongwane and Snamile Ndlovu from Old Mutual did a lucky draw, which saw two children win gift bags.
Fast Track Surf Lifesaving Club together with Reunion Aquatics Club members were on lifeguard duty for the children who were swimming and they also did cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and expired air resuscitation (EAR) as well as rescue technique demonstrations. Water safety pamphlets were handed out for reading in order to educate the children about staying safe around aquatic facilities.
The Tiger Fam dancers entertained the children with song and dance routines.
