Beach manager reels in angling honours
Jayce was awarded the top angler, biggest fish, most number of fish and most weight awards.
Beach manager, Jayce Govender won an inter-provincial fishing competition at Mtunzini on 19 March.
Fishing for the Mpumulanga team, Jayce was awarded the top angler, biggest fish, most number of fish and most weight awards.
The biggest fish caught over the two days was his 2.8kg rock cod.
“I wasn’t surprised to win as I often fish at Mtunzini,” said Jayce, who has won numerous tournaments and league rounds in KZN over the years. “We caught a lot of shad and spinner sharks.”
Jayce, who is a member of the Reunion Angling Club, has seven caps for representing the KZN team and was awarded presidential colours twice. He captained a six-man team that won gold at the Struisbaai Nationals Angling competition in Cape Town in 2012.
“I felt it was time to move on. Mpumalanga asked me to fish for them after I fished for Central Gauteng’s B team at nationals in February. Fishing and sports are my passion.”
