Fishing ski angling contest reels in R150,000 in prizes

Non-fishermen are also welcome to go along and join the festivities at the club where they will find tasty burgers and wors rolls on sale.

HEADING out of summer and into the autumn months means exciting times for fishing ski fishermen, as it is around this time of the year that some really big ‘couta’ are present along the South Coast.

The Winkle Fishing Ski Club hosts an annual competition which is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year.

Those who have competed in the previous Winkle club competitions know this is one not to be missed because of its unique format where four fishermen per team fish over two days, the excellent atmosphere among competitors, amazing array of prizes valued in excess of R150,000 and because it’s a great time of the year to be out on the water.

Anyone who wishes to fish but does not have a full team to enter can either enter as an individual and be in line to win prizes for the biggest fish or various lucky draw prizes but will not be eligible for team prizes or alternatively, put their name forward and the committee will put them in contact with other individuals also looking to form a team.

Non-fishermen are also welcome to go along and join the festivities at the club where they will find tasty burgers and wors rolls on sale. A portion of the funds raised in this competition goes towards the Winklespruit Lifesaving Club, which relies heavily on fundraising to maintain its high standards.
