Jona Vaughan Home was the recipient of over 100kg of coins collected by Kingsway High School pupils on Friday, 8 April.
“I’m not sure exactly how much money was collected, but the challenge was for pupils to bring in all their ‘brown coins’,” said Kingsway High School marketing manager, Elaine Woor.
The winning class, 8F brought in over 30kg of coins and Panarottis Pizza sponsored pizza for the class.
Jona Vaughan Home is a project of Durban and Coastal Mental Health, which is a residential care centre for 84 children and adults with profound intellectual disability.
Residents receive 24-hour holistic care in a safe and secure environment. As part of their care, residents receive nutritional meals, medical management, one-on-one care for their daily needs and participate in creative stimulation programmes.
“The centre endeavours to enhance the care and quality of life for our residents. With the escalating cost and high care needs of our residents, the centre appreciates support from the community,” said manager, Fiona Anderson.
“On behalf of Durban and Coastal Mental Health, our residents and parents of Jona Vaughan Home, we thank the pupils for the tremendous effort to help with fundraising.
The copper coin collection required three trolley loads to collect. Well done – you are an inspiration to the community.”
