THE 102nd annual general meeting of the Amanzimtoti Country Club and Conservancy takes place this coming Monday, 6 November in the golf club hall at 5.30pm.

All members are urged to attend.

Last weekend the women’s section sent 10 players off to compete in the annual KZNLGA interclub in Dundee, with very mixed fortunes.

The first day was hot and humid, followed by two days of freezing cold conditions which made for very difficult golfing. After a good first day Sue Boucher and Gill Symons struggled to follow through and petered out, while Colleen Smit and Sue Daniels improved each day, finally finishing in the announcements on day three, albeit with no actual prize. Congratulations must also go to Sibiha Bacaus and Natalie Singer from Umkomaas on their brilliant performance.

The men sent teams to compete in their interclub tournament, but only one team made it through to the Sunday alliance competition. Well done to Mark Cowie, Kalvin van Rensburg and Jason van Rensburg on their second place finish against 18 other clubs in the Sunday alliance.

The mystery of the unknown jackpot winner has been solved: Clive Hill and Craig Moriarty decided to double up and share tickets, so bought 80 on the day and put both their first names on each ticket. Considering how much these men support the club, it was great to see them win the money. By the way chaps, you owe Sue Boucher a finder’s fee for choosing the winning card for you.

On Wednesday, 29 players competed in the midweek IPS comp, with Phelp Stevenson taking the win by way of a count out from Brian Algate, both shooting 41. Three shots back was M Harvard in third place.

On Friday only 17 players ventured out to compete in the nine hole sundowner, with Chris Coetzee taking the honours on 21, counting out Madonna’s brother Richard, and Tommy McNaughton in third place on 19.

The women, rather depleted by the exodus to Dundee, played a betterball medal format, which was won by Brenda Morgan and Gerda Heydenrych on 64 nett. Charmain Stone was closest to the pin on the fourth, there were no two-clubs and the elusive jackpot wasn’t won so it carries over.

On Saturday the men played a fourball alliance, with 52 men turning out. Winners were Clive Hill, Jason Moriarty, Fred Wallace and Bruce Whiting on 100 points, followed by Preston Khomo, Cecil Heydenrych, Martin Rumbelow and Errol Woods on 94. They in turn counted out Terry Cousins, Willie Boucher, Pete Bredenhann and Rob Kruger. Nearest the pins on the fourth and 15th were Bruce and Preston respectively.
