Cyclists gear up for Jona Vaughn fundraiser

There will be another fundraiser this Sunday, 3 December which is in aid of Jona Vaughan, the Mentally Handicap Home in Bowe Street.

A FUNDRAISER for Eston Primary School took place last Sunday and the Amanzimtoti Cycling Club Mambas always enjoy riding at Virginia Trails and this ride was no exception.

Unfortunately, the rains made it very muddy, but Pete had his trusted workers putting the hard yards in on the Saturday prior to the race and managed to create another 40km route which was safe for everyone.

All runners and riders got into the spirit of Christmas and had a lot of fun. Justin Stolz was the only club member to win a lucky prize, but unluckily for his parents, it wasn’t the weekend away at Virginia trails.

The first Saturday of every month sees the Mambas try out different areas and trails and this Saturday, being the first in December, the outing sees them take to the majestic routes in Hilton. Berg Wheelers have kindly offered to host the Mambas and no doubt will show-off some of their best single-track in the area.

There will be another fundraiser this Sunday, 3 December which is in aid of Jona Vaughan, the home for the mentally handicapped in Bowe Street. Both Mambas and Roadies will meet outside Thirsty Whale at 5am, to hand in their contribution or gift before they head south at 5.30am.

Mambas are riding to Umkomaas while the Roadies will ride a little further south to Scottburgh. The plan is for all riders to arrive back at Thirsty Whale at the same time, 8am, to enjoy breakfast and coffee. There will be two support vehicles, should any admin occur.

All are welcome to ride, even runners, but should you not be able to make it but would still like to contribute, contact Sue Martin on 083-261-2744.

What gifts to take along: Packet of marshmallows or Twinkies, colouring-in books, wax crayons, chalk, small blackboard and duster, puzzles (no more than 100 pieces), magic board (on which artwork can be erased), sewing puzzle.

The children love music, drawing, swimming and playing, just like ACC’s cyclists.

A big thank you to Cindy from Thirsty Whale for always helping the club.
