Club swimmers make waves at Westville sprint champs

On the weekend of 24 and 25 November 13 of their swimmers raced at the Westville sprints championships held at Westville Boys High School.

AQUA Swimming Academy’s swimmers are achieving very well in the pool under new coach Jan Botha, father to 11-year-old swimmer, Monica Botha.

On the weekend of 24 and 25 November 13 of their swimmers raced at the Westville sprints championships held at Westville Boys High School.

They achieved incredibly well with 13 swimmers, 57 personal bests and 11 medals.

Twelve-year-old Matthew Maree won silver for 50m and 100m butterfly, 11-year-old Tyne van Achterberg won gold for 200m IM and 50m backstroke and bronze for 100m freestyle, eight-year-old Kai Franken won silver for 100m freestyle, 50m backstroke and 100m backstroke and bronze for 50m freestyle and 100m breaststroke and eight-year-old Bryce Andersson won silver for 200m IM.

Aqua Swimming Academy now has four level three swimmers: Kate Andersson, Matthew Maree, Tyne van Achterberg and Dylan Gander. They will be racing at the level three and junior national KZN Premier Championships at Kings Park short course pool from 16 to 20 December, where they hope to continue making personal bests as well as qualify for some finals.
