EDITOR – I am a retired man who lives in the once quiet neighbourhood of Athlone Park.
Our corner property borders two verges, which we maintain ourselves.
When a friend offered me a Fever tree I thought the verge would be the perfect place for it. I still told him I would probably never see it fully grown. Around 00.15am on Saturday, 7 December I woke to a commotion of a reverse gear alarm and dogs going berserk.
When I glanced through the blinds I was just in time to see a massive furniture removal type truck and trailer moving up Lorenzo Road, not realising the destruction it left behind. The tree was felled but survived.
