TOTI Ramblers will hike through Empisini Nature Reserve near Umkomaas on Sunday, 24 February.
This is an easy hike through a reserve which was established in 1973.
It takes its name Empisini from a perennial stream which flows through it and means ‘place of the hyena’. It covers an area of 60-ha and is well known for its birdlife, trees and lush vegetation. There is no entrance fee, but a donation for the two field rangers would be most welcome.
Walkers will meet at the Blue Ocean Dive Resort, 1 Reynolds Street in Umkomaas after the hike for a light meal.
Meet at Lords and Legends Parking area at 7.15am to sort out transport. If new to the area, rather meet at Lords and Legends parking and travel in convoy to the reserve.
Directions:
