AMANZIMTOTI Bowling Club (ABC) is taking the opportunity to get rolling again despite the fact that its been an off-again, on-again kind of year for all sports, and bowls has been no exception.
However, members were very happy that their club was opening again for some long awaited exercise and friendship. They kicked off with a well-supported Big Chicks Mixed 4’s on Saturday, July 31. The winners were
Delysia Mitchley, Leonie Mills with Shaun and Jaylene Fagan. Greg McLeod, Clive Frank, Tokkie de Kock and Barry Bush came second, and Doreen Salmond, Eric Klopper, Andrew Pearce and Dallas Davis took second session prize.
The Port Natal district are also trying to fit competitions in which they can. The last two rounds of the men’s and women’s league fixtures will be completed on the weekend of August 14 and 15.
Three members of ABC have been selected to play in the qualifying masters on August 7 and 8. They are Talla Stephens-Viviers in the open section, and Greg McLeod and Tokkie de Kock in veterans. Section winners will progress to play in the masters on August 21 and 22.
TGIF has also started again, and the winner of the 100 board was Leigh Callaghan. Next week there will be a special 100 board with extra prizes up for grabs. Toni Roberts was present to win the attendance draw, so the prize will go back to R100 next week. Ian Mills was not able to find the right key in the key draw therefore the jackpot will go up to R5 465 with 25 keys to choose from next week.
The club hosts a nominated three bowl pairs event on Women’s Day, Monday, August 9, at 8:30 for 9:00.
Practice sessions have resumed on Wednesday afternoons, along with the normal monthly schedule of games.
Birthday greetings for the week go to Vera Broskie and Jane Coetzee, and also to those members who were unfortunate enough to celebrate their birthdays during last month’s lockdown.
