Winklespruit Bowling Club members immerse themselves in club competitions

WBC members who organise their own club competition games need to enter their game into the events book in order for the green keeper to allocate a rink.

ANOTHER full week of activities took place on and off the green at Winklespruit Bowling Club (WBC). Besides the Victory Kwik Spar and Tops Winkle women’s trips, numerous club competitions and social bowls took place over the past week.

Thank you to the women’s team who participated in the Victory Kwik Spar and Tops Winkle women’s trips. Thank you to the sponsor, Victory Kwik Spar and Tops for its support. Many thanks to those who supplied the snacks and Norma Raath for ensuring that refreshments where available for the players.

Overall winners were Delysia Mitchely, Cathy Bardenhorst and Jaylene Fagan. Second session winners were Maureen Warrior, Pippa Hanel and Hannie Nel. The mystery prize and 100 board was won by Vera Broskie.

A number of club competition games took place over the past week, with some very good games and close finishers. In the men’s trips final Freddy Hetterscheidt’s side pipped Adie Fuller’s team on the last end to win the men’s trips championship.

In another last end win Hans de Waal and Andre Gelderblom beat off stiff competition from Ivan van den Bergh and Wessie van der Westhuizen, in a nail biting finish Han’s and Andre came through to clinch the men’s drawn 2-4-2 title.

In the mixed nominated pairs Barrie and Shirley de Wee beat Rob and Sandy Hilton. In the early stages of the game Rob and Sandy got themselves into a six shot lead, but unfortunately they could not maintain the lead and Barrie and Shirley went on to win the game by a comfortable score and go into the next round. Well done to Rob and Sandy for putting up a very good performance.

In the women’s nominated pairs, Elmarie Young and Lou Bingham overcame Sylveigh Ananiadis and Di Kruger. Good luck to Elmarie and Lou in the next round.

John Scot and Keith Holmes went up against Hans de Waal and Wessie van der Westhuizen in the men’s nominated pairs. After a very close contested game, Hans and Wessie pulled in front on the second to last end and deservedly went on to win the game. Good luck to Hans and Wessie in the next round.

Upcoming events include the Port Natal South Coast men’s pensioners league which takes place on Tuesday, September 14 at 08:30 for 09:00.

Social bowls take place every Wednesday and Friday, tabs in at 13:30 for 14:00. Note there is a surcharge for refreshments on social bowls days. Note only three rinks can be used for club competitions when being booked on a social bowls session, Wednesday and Friday afternoon.

The attendance draw was conducted and Lou Bingham’s name was drawn, but regrettably she was not present. The prize will carry over to next Friday.

Members are reminded to return all bowls equipment after completion of games. Members who organise their own club competition games need to enter their game into the events book in order for the green keeper to allocate a rink.

Birthday greetings for the week go to Steve Liebertrau, Marius van den Bergh and Rob Stewart.
