Susan takes silver in SA Masters Singles Championship

Susan Nel is a highly experienced bowler and enjoys competing in championships,

THE 2023 SA Masters Singles Championships were played in Cape Town last week and Amanzimtoti Bowling Club (ABC) are proud to announce that Susan Nel excelled by winning silver in the women’s veterans division.

She is currently representing South Africa in the multi-national championships in Australia. Susan played some excellent shots during the finals and kept her supporters glued to their screens.

Congratulations to Julie Sutherland and Brian Masters; and Keith West and Tokkie de Kock for winning their sections in the Port Natal mixed pairs competition. Play-offs will take place at the club on April 1 and 2.

In other honours board competitions last week, Julie Sutherland and Brian Masters won their mixed pairs game against Cheryl Retief and Craig Short. Ashley McIntyre and Sue Blount had a close match in their pairs, but managed to secure the win in the last end to go through to the quarter finals. Greg McLeod and Marion Crouch, who were winners of mixed pairs last year, won their match to reach the finals once again.

In the novice singles, Charlotte Boyers and Nkosi Majozi both won their games.

Two teams participated in the Underberg fives competition last weekend. The team comprising Alec Nel, Phil Whitton, Andrew Walker, Fred Welch and Brian Masters secured third place. In addition, ABC won the trophy for the most sociable club.

There will be no barflies for the month of April due to the Oppenheimers mixed pairs competition taking place on April 1 and 2.

At TGIF the 100 board was won by Eric Gardner and the attendance draw was won by Zeldine Viljoen, who was not present to collect.

Denise Bingham was called for the key draw, but, unfortunately, the key did not fit. The draw will increase to R6 735 for next week. A very happy birthday to Mike Pitchers, Clive Frank and Keith Holmes for this week.
