Interclub angling competition held at Warnadoone Skiboat Club
The deep-sea fishing competition saw eight clubs taking part, with the local team securing second place.
EIGHT clubs, consisting of three anglers per boat, recently took part in the Annual Interclub 2023 Umkomaas and Warnadoone Skiboat Club.
The deep-sea fishing event, held at the Warnadoone Skiboat Club, was initially scheduled for two days, however, anglers only managed to fish on the second day due to weather conditions.

The skiboat clubs that took part were Warnadoone, Umkomaas, uMhlanga, Durban Gold, Durban Blue, Pennington, Natal Rod and Reel Black, and Natal Rod and Reel White.

Warnadoone Skiboat Club secretary Gizelle Stewart said the competition worked on a South African Deep Sea Angling Association (SADSAA) and International Game Fish Association (IGFA) scoring system.
“Points were awarded according to size of fish, and if a team caught three species or more, they’d be awarded bonus points,” she said.

The top three anglers were Chase Corfield (junior) of Umkomaas Skiboat Club, Lavelle Roden (junior) of Umkomaas Skiboat Club and David Nell of Warnadoone Skiboat Club.

The winning club was Umkomaas Skiboat Club with all junior anglers under the age of 21, with Warnadoone Skiboat Club in second place and Durban Skiboat Club Gold in third.
Stewart, on behalf of the club, thanked the sponsors and all those who assisted in making the weekend a success.
“It was a fun day for all, the weather was perfect and the catches were phenomenal. Seeing some upcoming female junior anglers was so inspirational,” she said.
