Last chance to enter Tour Durban in support of The Domino Foundation

Late entries for the aQuellé Tour Durban, which takes place this weekend, are still open. Registration can be done in person on April 19 from 09:00 to 17:00 and April 20 from 06:00 to 15:00 at Cycle Lab Cornubia.

THERE is still time to enter the city’s premier cycling event, the aQuellé Tour Durban, which takes place on April 20 and 21, in support of The Domino Foundation.

Karen Brokensha, marketing manager at Domino, is keen to see every cyclist, serious or casual, get out on the open road or on the gravel for the off-road events.

“They will have a great experience being part of this iconic annual event and will also have the satisfaction of knowing they are making a difference in the lives of the 15 000 vulnerable people we work with every day,” she said.

According to Tour Durban’s website, for two decades, the dedicated community development teams in Domino’s seven programmes have been impacting thousands of vulnerable lives to bring about sustainable social change.

One of these is the nutrition programme which operates three kitchens, one of which is in Amanzimtoti, to produce thousands of high-protein sandwiches, helpings of soup and porridge (called ‘food for thought’) which go to learners who would otherwise not have a sustaining meal during their school day.

Karen added that this year sees the introduction of the trail runs for those who prefer a more ‘direct’ contact with the course they are running.

For the off-road riders on April 20, there is now a gravel ride option of 48km, as well as the traditional three mountain bike routes over 40km, 20km and 10km.

The road races on April 21 have full road closure and offer riders a choice of 110km, 42km or 28km.

Late entries are still being accepted in person on registration days on April 19 (09:00 to 17:00) and April 20 (06:00 to 15:00) at Cycle Lab Cornubia.
