This event gives medalists from around the country a chance to qualify for the Protea team selection and the opportunity to represent South Africa at the IMMAF (International Mixed Martial Arts Federation) World Champs as well as the IMMAF African Championship. The three divisions are youth, junior and senior.

All eight athletes from Bushido MMA Gym who were selected for the training squad made the KZN team.

They are Brendan van Zyl, Kyle Clark, Demi-Shaye Thomas, Kewyn Kapp, Kaden Neilson, Jonothan Rorke, Jade Grundlingh and Tinus Stoop.

Coach Greg Thomas said, “A few of my athletes have had to cut weight. They have all been training intensely for eight weeks, every day, at least three to four hours a day. The last bit of preparation is a physically and mentally draining process, especially because they have such high expectations for themselves. This is the day they’ve been training for, a day where all their hard work will be displayed. I am so proud of them.”
