Amanzimtoti runners give it their all at Kearsney Striders race

More than 1 000 runners participated in the challenging race held in Botha's Hill.

TWELVE runners from Amanzimtoti Athletic Club (AAC) took part in the Kearsney Striders Half-Marathon and 10km recently.

The start and finish of the 21.1km and 10km races, hosted by the Kearsney Striders Athletics Club, was at Kearsney College in Botha’s Hill.

The club’s chairperson, Andrew Fleming, said they could not have hoped for better weather, with excellent support from the watering tables, neighbourhood watch, marshals, race organising team as well as Kearsney College and the ground staff.

“The route was mostly good, except for a stretch in Alverstone which has many potholes. The event turned out very well with the support of 1 317 runners, the real stars of the show,” he said.

AAC’s Thessa Herbst, who did the 21.1km along with her husband, Kassie, said it was a very well-organised race, but it was challenging with lots of hills, giving runners good training for upcoming difficult races.

“Your body needs to get used to running longer distances. The only way this will happen is when you run beyond your comfort zone,” she said.

AAC said it is very proud of its club members who, as always, gave their best at a challenging but enjoyable race.
