Rhodies golf day makes for a fun day for fundraising

It was a day of fun, fundraising and camaraderie when the Rhodesia Association of South Africa (RASA) held its annual golf day.

IT WAS a glorious day of golf as the Rhodesia Association of South Africa (RASA) held its annual Rhodies Golf Day at Amanzimtoti Country Club and Conservancy on September 7.

RASA is a non-profit organisation, incorporated in the Flame Lily Foundation, which hosts fundraising events such as the golf day to support less fortunate Rhodesian (Zimbabwean) pensioners living in South Africa.

Peter Shattock, chairperson of RASA, said the day was a huge success.

“Despite the rain coming in at 07:00, it subsided by 08:00, allowing all 21 teams of four to tee off at 08:30. It was an enjoyable day full of quality golf, culminating in a tasty meal with boerewors rolls and traditional salsa and gravy,” said Shattock.

Afterwards, golfers were presented with trophies and gifted prizes. He expressed gratitude to RASA’s sponsors for the prizes, and to Amanzimtoti Country Club and Conservancy.

Shattock said the annual golf day is RASA’s biggest fundraiser of the year, and allows the NPO to support around six less fortunate pensioners with money for groceries every three months.

“It’s all about putting the fun in fundraising, and makes for the ideal opportunity for get-togethers, camaraderie and a shared love of golf,” said Shattock.
