Have a ball on the beach

December holidays are just around the corner and Sapphire Coast Toti Tourism (SCTT) will once again entertain locals and visitors on the beaches over the festive season.

The beach holiday programme kicks off in spectacular fashion with Toti’s inaugural music festival Summer Jams at Kingsway High School on Saturday, 7 December, featuring top Toti bands, the Gus Brown Band, Fools of Fate, Manuvah To Land, Redlight Stereo, Catlike Thieves and the Paper Planes. Other bands include the Jordi Band (Durban), Dave Starke (Richards Bay), East Coast Radio’s Be The Band winners, The Kickstands (Scottburgh), The Accidentals, the Hinds Brothers (Durban) and The Arrows, who will close the festival at 11pm. Strandiens takes place on Toti main beach from Tuesday, 17 December to Tuesday, 31 December. “Locals and visitors will be entertained on the beach from 10am to 1pm every day with local DJ Paul keeping the vibe festive. Expect beach volleyball, puppet shows, touch rugby tug-o-war, talent competitions and other beach games,” said SCTT chairman, Jacques van Schalkwyk. “The beach programme on Toti beach excludes 25 and 26 December, and 1 January,” said Jacques. “The beach locker facility on Toti beach, where beach-goers can safely store their belongings, will be available from 9 December to 5 January,” said Jacques.

Shop ’til you drop on Friday, 13 December and Saturday, 21 December at the Pregnancy Resource annual night market on Toti promenade, featuring a variety of stalls, delicious food and great music from 5.30pm to 10pm. On 14 and 15 December the Umgababa Sports Festival takes place at Mnini sports field, featuring various sporting codes and games, topped with music by famous artists from 9am to 6pm. For more information, contact TO Zulu on 082-293-6689.

This is followed by the first Rockview Rondesvouxa, a small enterprise fair showcasing local business on Monday, 16 December from 9am to 5pm. For more information, contact Michelle on 078-521-8751.

For music lovers get to the outdoor depot in KwaMakhutha on Sunday, 15 December to enjoy the annual hip hop festival an open mike performance, freestyle session, producers’ session, music announcements and other entertainment items for free from 9am to 5pm. Usher in Christmas with beach entertainment and music by famous 7de Laan actors, Ivan Botha and Donnalee Roberts, as well as singer Willem Botha on Tuesday, 24 December on Toti main beach from 10am to 1pm to create awareness of the Help-net Fund.
