Host of fun planned for racing carnival day

For the 13th year, the Rising Sun will join forces with Gold Circle to stage one of its most popular events, the Rising Sun Gold Challenge Racing Carnival.

The event takes place on Saturday, 11 June at Greyville Racecourse and features the grade one R1-million Rising Sun Gold Challenge race, where a number of Vodacom Durban July entries can be seen preparing for the big day on Saturday, 2 July.

Gates open at 10am and entrance is free.

This year The Rising Sun in partnership with Gold Circle, Kitchen Studio’s and Serendipity Tours will host a free concert after the running of the last race featuring the Zee Stars and local comedians.

Live entertainment will also feature in between races and visitors can browse through many fleamarket and food stalls. On offer at the stalls will be everything from toys to clothing and a variety of tasty snacks for all palates.

There will be lots of prizes to be won on the day, including a Win A Car competition and it could be you driving off with a brand new Etios courtesy of The Rising Sun Newspapers and Halfway Toyota Malanda. There will be a cash prize up for grabs in the freestyle dance competition and if that’s not enough, you can keep your eyes glued to the sizzling fashion show with a cash prize to the value of R16,000 courtesy of Gold Circle and a Fashion Design capacity building programme package valued at R40,000 courtesy of the KZN Fashion Council.

The categories are as follows: Most striking couple, students designer wear (entrants must produce a student card) and professional designer wear. Registration for fashion is at 8.45am.
