Car crash sends man flying across road

EMERGENCY response officials attended to an accident scene where just minutes before, a young man had been hit by a car.

Gavin Scheepers (20) sat on the pavement by the McDonald’s on corner of Turf Road and Main Street in Turffontein, still disoriented from the pain and trauma suffered after he smashed into the windscreen of an oncoming vehicle, which is said to have had right of way.

“I saw my friend get hit by the car because we were walking right behind him as he tried to cross the road,” said 23-year-old Quinton Thorn Reichert. “We were on our way to Southdale Shopping Mall when we witnessed the accident.”

Reportedly, Gavin had been absent minded as he walked into the street unaware that the traffic light had quickly changed from amber to a red light and that was when a white Honda came crashing into him.

Gavin sustained serious injuries to his head as well as some bruises on his legs and arms. Paramedics said that although he will suffer from extreme body pain, he will recover soon.
