Woman’s bank card stolen at Comaro Crossing
Is crime increasing at Comaro Crossing Shopping centre?

COMARO CROSSING: On Friday October 11, a woman went to check her bank balance at Standard Bank ATM at Comaro Crossing Shopping Centre and had her bank card stolen.
She said she carefully checked no one was watching her but she did see a security guard standing by the window at Matrix. As she inserted her card to check the balance, a man came out of nowhere, pushed her aside, pressed buttons on the ATM and fled with her bank card.
“I called for help and the security guard just stood watching me and did absolutely nothing! Another man came to my assistance from the barber’s shop and told me there’s a gang who operates at the Standard Bank ATM. “The man also said I was the fourth person that day who had been robbed,” she said.
The woman went to her bank at The Glen Shopping Centre, Capitec Bank, to cancel her bank card but before she could do this the suspect had run across to the Shell garage opposite BMW and withdrawn R1 770.
“The ATM at Comaro Crossing Shopping Centre didn’t have a Help Line number to call in case of theft. “When I eventually got the Help Line number and contacted the staff there I was told I would have to go to a police station and report the theft, which I did.
“Thank you to Constable Mushi at Moffatview Police Station for her kindness and for assisting me. Also thanks to Riaan at Standard Bank The Glen. I suggested to him they should have a security guard at their ATM as I was told there have been many robberies there.
Mr Mutamba, the Comaro Shopping Centre supervisor was really helpful and I asked him, what the security guards are supposed to do when they are on duty at the centre. He told me their job is to look after clients at the centre, as well as other duties. I told him I was watched by a security guard who did nothing to assist me.”
The woman filled out a report at the centre management office about the incident and met with Mr Strauss, one f the management team. “To everyone who assisted me when I was upset, thank you very much. I just hope they can pick up the robber on the CCTV footage,” she concluded.

According to the woman, Capitec Bank are not going to reimburse her the stolen money from her account as they say she wasn’t in possession of her bank card. “This is ridiculous. Obviously I wasn’t in possession of my bank card. I’d inserted it into the ATM and then it was stolen. I’m not happy about this at all and will be taking it further,” concluded the woman.
