Top Gauteng learners to receive bursaries

Youngsters to be honoured for excellent performance in 2013 matric year.

JOHANNESBURG SOUTH – A number of top achieving Gauteng learners will be awarded with bursaries by the Gauteng Department of Education on January 27.

“The bursaries, which aims to encourage and actively support the integration of workplace training with theoretical learning, will be awarded to the top three learners in the 2013 Senior Certificate examinations from no-fee paying schools in the province,” said the Gauteng Education Department in a statement.

Gauteng Premier, Nomvula Mokonyane, and Gauteng MEC for Education will be handing out the bursaries at the Turffontein Race Course and the event will be broadcast live at 06:30.

“The event will take the format of the New Age / Morning Live business briefing. It will be held at the Turffontein Race Course and will be broadcast live on SABC 2’s Morning Live show.”

“The awarding of these bursaries is a way in which the Gauteng Provincial Government seeks to facilitate the journey individuals make from school, college or university to sustain employment and in-work progression.”
