South’s own Iron Man 70.3 competitor

The Iron Man 70.3 was made up of a 1.9km swim in the ocean, 90km cycle race and a 21km run.

SOUTH OF JOHANNESBURG – Bruno Barradas is not only a successful family and business man but is now competing in sports events, most recently Iron Man 70.3 which took place in East London on Sunday January 26.

“This event has been one of my goals for some time and I started training last July with an average of 12 hours a week. I ran and swam three times a week, and cycled three times. I had some wonderful guys who shared their expertise with me and supported me in my training.

“Craig Cloete was my running partner and encouraged me every step of the way in my training and Paul Smart who did the event with me. Stefano Madies, a professional cyclist, Pastor Donavan Cassell (Rhema South Family Church), Stephen Montgomery, Gareth Orritt, Paul Confait and Clement Naidoo.  To my wife Sarah, and our children, Joshua, Raquel, Ariella, Caleb and Daniel, you are all amazing. Raquel used to swim with me on a Sunday and on the morning before the race began I received an inspirational text from her which really touched my heart,” said Bruno.

Bruno finished the race in six hours 24 minutes and is looking forward to the Tri-Rock and Midlands Ultra events later this year and then another go at the Iron Man 70.3 next year. “I think once you’ve competed in such an event you just want to do more,” laughed Bruno, “so here’s to starting training all over again!”
