R48 Million heroin seized at Crown Gardens

A 42 year old Pakistani national has been arrested.

CROWN GARDENS – Heroin worth R48 million has been seized by the Hawks in a house at Crown Gardens, Booysens area, a 42 year old Pakistani national has been arrested.

Sapa added: “It is alleged that he was going to deliver it to a certain location and we pounced on him. We found 40kg, and each kilogram goes for about R1.2 million,” said Hawks spokesman Paul Ramaloko.

Ramaloko said the drugs were brought into the country, but he could not disclose where it was coming from as it would compromise their investigation.

The man was believed to be part of an international drug distribution network. Police said more arrests were imminent. Two unlicensed firearms were also found in the house. The man is due to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday on a charge of dealing in drugs

Almost two years ago, two Nigerians were arrested at a house in Altson Road, Moffatview, drugs worth R5mil were confiscated.

The drugs were found in a maroon sport Land Rover on the premises owned by the suspects. Cocaine and Tik was among the drugs found. The raid which started around midnight was lead from Germiston.

At the time former Clr Bev Turk said, “I commend the SAPS for a job well done. This is one of the biggest drug busts in the South and I am pleased with the arrests.

“This shows that there are still good and efficient members in the force. I would also like to congratulate the person who gave the lead to the police.”
