Free car seats to save lives at the Glen
Many children get head injuries and become care dependent, because they were not protected by a safe car seat.
THE GLEN – More than 200 cars seats were donated to shoppers at The Glen Shopping Centre on Saturday June 21 to help save lives by Wheel Well ‘Carseats for Kids’.
The life-saving initiative founded by Peggie Mars was supported by Netcare, Drivemasters and Cartrack, a leading vehicle tracking and stolen vehicle recovery provider.
Peggy’s non-profit organisation collects car seats from donors, cleans them and checks them to ascertain they are free from defects, and then donate them to motorists in need.
“The reason why we do this is because vehicles are dangerous for children. Many external deaths of children are due to vehicle crashes. Many children get head injuries and become care dependent, because they were not protected by a safe car seat.
“One more important thing people need to know is that driving legally is not the only way to keep children safe in the roads. Parents need to drive lovingly to protect their children,” said Peggy Mars.
The event was hosted to donate more than 200 seats, but they ended up receiving seats from shoppers who came to the mall’s roof parking and saw something beautiful happening.
People who wish to donate their car seats for children can drop them at any Renault dealership or phone cartrack at 0861 22 78 72 or Morgan at 084 266 7426.
