JOHANNESBURG SOUTH – A man and a woman are going around lying to people and pretending that they are from Crime Stats SA and want to ask some questions, but apparently all they do is gather data to use against you.
Christina Ellen welcomed the charming couple to her Robertshem home at Altham Road, only to get suspicious when they asked many questions about her children and how they spend their days.
Christina believes they ask parents about their children’s daily schedules so that they can know who is in the house during the day.
“The couple came to my house twice. The first time they came and asked me questions as they pretended to be working on a survey. When they came for the second time, they were probably coming to steal. Fortunately my helper was in the house and she phoned me and told me: ‘Those people are back, and they claim you have granted them access to into the premises.'”
Because Christina was suspicious when they asked her about her children, and as a concerned parent, she reported the matter to the Booysens Police. The police told her they did not know anything about Crime Stats SA deploying agents to collect information.
“Because I had spoken to the station commander and he did not know those people, I was able to immediately phone the police and let them know that there are people trying to enter my house when my helper phoned me.”
No arrests have been made yet, but residents are advised to be extra careful who gains access to their homes.
