Ten blocks of flats refurbished

A project following Bev's resignation as DA councillor

JOHANNESBURG SOUTH – A project to refurbish ten blocks of flats was a success according to ANC member Bev Turk, who says she initiated the project while she was a candidate for ANC councillor for the ward.

Bev Turk was very happy to show one of the flats, Attwell House, as it was in the COURIER earlier this year with a bad leak near a power station, causing unrest to the tenants she promised to help.

The project which Bev said would not be possible without the support, backing and availability of resources from the ANC, made Bev Turk very happy on Wednesday October 29.

The blocks of flats received new painting, waterproofing, ceiling, roofing and plumbing, depending on what needed to be fixed, but more plumbing work will still be done to fix those areas still in need of attention.

Community development practitioner, Sipho Nyathi, said: “Here at Attwell House we even fixed the gate on our own, and we encourage other people to do the same with their gates and always keep them locked.”

“It is important for the residents to fix the small things, because as a collective, people can be able to work together to help the municipality,” he added.

In a letter, Bev Turk added: “Once again I have to say thank you to the ANC and specifically to the MMC Dan Bovu for making the funds available for the recent renovations and upliftment of the units that took place following my resignation.

“There are other issues that we as the ANC are looking at. I am still available for queries on 071 143 1712.”
