Armed robbery in Bassonia

At about 18:30 on Tuesday evening December 9 an estate agent was showing prospective buyers around a home in Tarantal Road, Bassonia.

BASSONIA – Three African men and one African woman who posed as buyers, had previously been screened by the agent and an AR was carried out on the second viewing of the property.

One of the men was wearing a Muslim headdress and the other two men had thick, long distinctive dreadlocks. They are between 35 to 40 years old and of average build, all well-dressed. The woman was overweight and was also dressed in traditional Muslim attire.

Halfway through the viewing they held up the agent and family in the home. They were armed with at least two handguns and tied the agent and family up using cable ties. They were in the house for about half an hour loading stolen goods into their vehicle. They wore latex gloves and disconnected the alarm and panic buttons.

A gold coloured Toyota Corolla, 2006/7 model was used. Part of the registration number is SRV….GP.

The estate agent involved took every precaution and screened the purchasers, however, agents are to be wary of showing properties to groups of more than two people at a time and shouldn’t be lulled into a false sense of security because a woman is with the buyers.
CPF patrollers were on the scene as well as Glenvista Victim Support Unit, who counselled the family and children.

No one sustained physical injuries.
