Planned development upsets residents
Residents in Vorster Avenue, Glenvista are furious that land originally zoned for education, 318 Vorster Avenue, ERF2833, is now going to be used for residential 2 housing.
GLENVISTA – “Only by chance did I see the notice hidden behind a pole stating residents have until March 25 to object, and I removed it to a more noticeable place,” said an angry resident.
The surrounding properties are valued upwards of R1.5 million and if the proposed development goes ahead it’s likely to be three storey townhouses which will be built.
“This will totally obscure our view and will bring down the valuation of our properties. We want to know have the proper procedures taken place? Has there been an environmental impact assessment? The property has a resident yellow mongoose, rock dassies as well as significant birdlife including species sensitive to development such as spotted thick knee’s, crowned plovers and spotted eagle owl’s.”
He went on to say, “There will only be one access point into the proposed development via Vorster Avenue and the state of the road is already poor and this will add significantly to traffic volumes.”
According to a document 200 plus units will be built with 400 parking bays.
Residents in the area met on Friday evening March 6 with Ward 23 councillor, Paul Smit, to discuss the issue.
