WOM members enjoy interesting presentation

Rob explained what each herb is beneficial for.

ON Tuesday, July 21, WOW (Women of Worth) members enjoyed a talk and workshop given by Rob and Leo Jones from the Johannesburg South Garden Club. The talk was on tussie-mussies, a Victorian posy comprised primarily of scented herbs.

Rob explained what each herb is beneficial for. “Lavender is a soothing property agent; rosemary can be used in cooking and is also a super conditioner for your hair. Boil rosemary sprigs, cool the water and bottle. Lime leaves release oils and scented geraniums give lovely oils and fragrances,” said Rob.

The group were given the herbs and a ribbon to make their own tussie-mussies. “ Once you have made this you can either hang it over your hot tap in the bath or over the showerhead. The oils and fragrances will be released from the hot water, or you can put the tussie-mussie in a small vase. It should last a couple of weeks and the healing properties while you shower or bath will be beneficial for you,” Rob said.

After the workshop members and guests enjoyed a delicious tea with savories and cakes.
