Eikenhof crash leaves two dead and two critical
Two people lost their lives and two people were critically injured during an accident on the R82, towards Orange Farms, near Old Grasemere Road in Eikenhof, on Wednesday, August 5.
EIKENHOF – Netcare 911 paramedics and other emergency services arrived at the scene and found the crushed remains of a vehicle pinned underneath a heavy goods vehicle. Santi Steinmann from Netcare 911 said the exact detail surrounding the cause of the crash and preceding events are still unclear and will remain the subject of a police investigation.
“Reports from the scene indicate that the heavy goods vehicle was turning right onto the R82 when the motor vehicle crashed against the heavy goods vehicle’s trailer. Upon assessment of the occupants, paramedics found that two men tragically lost their lives during the crash. A woman and a child were found to be in a critical condition as a result of the crash,” explained Santi.
The Netcare1 helicopter airlifted the critically injured woman to hospital for urgent medical care and the child was rushed to hospital via ambulance.
All four occupants of the vehicle were trapped in the mangled remains and the fire department had to use specialised equipment to extricate them.
The driver of the heavy goods vehicle was not injured during the crash.
