Young cartoonist has big plans
18-year-old cartoonist, Thabo Tsolo’s talent is a cut above the rest.
JOHANNESBURG SOUTH – Cartoonist Thabo Tsolo (18) might be young but his cartoons surely give the infamous Zapiro a run for his money.
Thabo, a grade 12 pupil at Sir John Adamson High School, has the eye to draw relevant and satiric cartoons of public figures in a way that makes them self-explanatory, funny and newsworthy. The cartoons have made him popular at school as he has drawings of the school staff and other pupils, but he plans to reach an even larger audience. Thabo has his own cartoon comedy series that has four complete seasons that can be enjoyed by both adults and children.
“I want to study animation next year. That way I will animate my cartoon series because the sketches and the script are already complete. In fact, I will be the first South African youngster to make a cartoon series targeted at both adults and children and that can be screened on TV,” said Thabo, a Bellavista resident.
Thabo takes visual art as a subject and said he keeps himself informed so that can he can draw suitable sketches that people can understand and relate to. “Thabo has an amazing talent that needs more exposure. He is very good and has been drawing sketches of the teachers and some students in the school,” said his proud teacher, Trynie Oosthuizen.
