South residents welcome new Booysens magistrate’s court

South residents welcome new Booysens Magistrate court.

RESIDENTS of the South made their way to the Southern Suburbs Sports Club, in Rosettenville, to discuss and view the concept of the new Booysens Magistrate’s Court.

Construction of the court commenced on Friday, June 3, a day after the meeting, and the Independent Development Trust (IDT) responsible for overseeing the project wants residents to be informed as construction workers and vehicles will often occupy the space.

The court is being built conveniently to accommodate both the new and the old South of Johannesburg and to also enable for an easy flow of traffic as it will be near the N12 highway at corner Rifle Range Road and Amanda Avenue.

Members of the ANC, DA and the EFF also convened and asked questions, alongside the local residents, about this new magistrate’s court that will see some of the South’s worst criminals be sentenced to harsh sentence in the the name of justice.

With heavy construction due to take place, Maphutha Makhura from the IDT said, “There was an agreement with the contractor that 50% of the staff will be sourced from ward 56 but if there will not be candidates skilled enough, the constructor will look for other suitable candidates from the closest wards nearest to ward 56. When the time to do so comes, we will advertise in the local newspaper.”

According to the IDT, there is no schedule yet of how long everything could take or how much certain things could cost because it is often when construction starts that the contractor finds things such as heavy rocks that could prolong the length of construction, but once all is sorted, the IDT will communicate with the people through the newspaper (Southern COURIER).

Opportunities that will arise include bricklaying, plumbing, painting, carpentry, electricity, steel reinforcing, paving, plastering, scaffolding, and safety reps. Some locals who will be taken without the necessary skills will be trained and given certificates should they want to go seek work elsewhere in future.
