Shadow Police Minister highlights crime issues

Zakhele Mbhele visited the most crime-ridden streets and areas and met and spoke with residents who experience crime on first-hand and a daily basis.

DA Shadow Police Minister Zak Mbhele visited areas policed by the Moffatview SAPS on Friday, June 3. Mbhele also spoke with residents who experience crime on a first-hand and daily basis.

After the tour, on which he was accompanied by PR Clr Tyrel Meyers, Clr Faeeza Chame, MP Manny de Freitas, Clr Dennis Jane and Sarah Wissler (DA activist), the Democratic Alliance members went to the Moffatview police station to have a meeting about alleged corruption in the SAPS.

“The police undertook to investigate any crime and corruption reports should we present it to them. I have thus created a special email account for this purpose – report4corruption@gmail.com – people can feel assured that they can report crimes or cases of corruption without feeling victimised or in danger,” said de Freitas.

A public meeting was held in the evening with great success as many issues were tabled. Mbhele undertook to take up the various issues and to report back to the community using mainly the local media as a means of communication.

“Unless the community is prepared to participate in helping to find solutions to the criminal problems in the area, we will not be able to win this battle. We all need to stand together,” he added.
