Eskom Expo for Young Scientists
At the expo students can discuss their work with judges, teachers and students from other schools, parents and other interested people.
A PARK Senior Primary School learner, Tshiamiso Modise, took gold at the Eskom Expo for Young Scientists held at the University of Johannesburg on Saturday August 27.
The school was well represented as 12 learners participated, and, apart from Tshiamiso’s gold, four learners received bronze medals (Jamie-Lee le Kay, Phathu Netshiendeulu, Tania Chirindo and Sheila Kruger).
Expo’s Gauteng regional director, Nicholas Bixa said Tshiamiso Modise was an exceptional grade six learner to receive a gold medal. “Out of 350 grade six to 12 learners Tshiamiso Modise was among the 40 learners who received gold medals. And what stands out for her is that she was given only three weeks to prepare and this was her own authentic research. She also comes from previously disadvantage institution (PDI),” he said.
The Eskom Expo for Young Scientists is an exposition, or science fair, where students have a chance to show others their projects about their own scientific investigations.
