Suspects chased down and caught

Sergeant Frank Sithole was taking the van to a mechanic when he saw two men running carrying two boxes and a bag.

WHILE driving his police van to the mechanic, Sergeant Frank Sithole saw two men running while carrying two boxes and a big bag.

He decided to investigate and tried to stop the men but they ran in the opposite direction down Johannesburg Road, La Rochelle. This prompted him to give chase, and shortly after he made a U-turn, to continue his chase, he was stopped by a man driving an Isuzu bakkie. The man informed him that two men broke into his bakkie and stole some tools and material.

The suspects were located where they were hiding out in a wooden shed, opposite a filling station. Further investigation led to the stolen goods being recovered behind a pawn shop in Rosettenville. The man, who previously stopped the police officer, identified the goods and the suspects and they were arrested and taken to Moffatview SAPS.

The incident happened on September 20.
