Therapy dogs entertain at Queenshaven
The elderly at Queenshaven were entertained with therapy dogs.
TOPDOGS treated the elderly at Queenshaven Old Age Home with the entertainment of therapy dogs on Friday, October 7.
Topdogs is a non-profit organisation that offers this service to numerous old age homes and charity homes for both adults and children, at no cost whatsoever. Members are all volunteers and have been offering these services all over Pretoria and Alberton, but at this stage they want to have a team in the South of Johannesburg and are looking for volunteers.
Topdogs is known to have ‘reached’ dementia patients where people have failed and the members do so much more to help children and adults experiencing challenges, including those with disabilities.
Gareth Nicholson from Singapore and his colleagues from Aberdeen Assets and Management, helped raise R15 000 and want to raise another R10 000 to help the organisation with its dogs – especially as the Topdogs people are all volunteers. They travel around with their own dogs to offer, among many other services, Animal Assisted Therapy (AAT) and Animal Education Programmes (AEP).
