Top dogs raise R21k

This annual event held by Animaltalk, showcases the agility of show dogs and is a firm favourite among dog show enthusiasts.

OVER R21 000 was raised for the Animal Anti-Cruelty League (AACL) at the recently held Top Dog Awards 2017.

This annual event held by Animaltalk showcases the agility of show dogs and is a firm favourite among dog show enthusiasts. Moreover, a most commendable part of the ceremony is that guests and hosts alike recognise that not all dogs are lucky enough to be loved and cared for, and that there are a multitude of pets in shelters who are desperately yearning for a second chance to have a loving family and home.

When the AACL staff were made aware of the funds that had been raised at the event, they were overwhelmed with gratitude.

General Manager Cindy Price said they have always had a very special place in their hearts for Animaltalk. “From the outset this was a publication that has always been a voice for welfare’s underdogs. They really do care about the less fortunate pets that fill the shelters and do everything they can to assist and cover topical issues relevant to our industry. We regard them as a leading publication with massive appeal for every animal lover out there and sincerely thank them and their guests at the Top Dog Awards who supported the auction and contributed towards this stunning donation of R21 320,” she said.

Price went on to say that these funds would be of significant benefit to AACL when attempting to meet the surge in medical and pet food costs, as a result of the number of pets that are being surrendered. “It is very sad,” she said, “to be witness to the despair of many families who can just no longer afford to keep their pets. We are living in extremely challenging times economically and these families go through tremendous trauma and anxiety when faced with this tough decision. The unexpected windfall received from Animaltalk will help to take care of our shelter animals and is a true blessing,” noted Price.
