President edges out Goudrif in thriller match

The home crowd were left stunned while all the Pressie supporters were obviously in the highest of spirits.

ON Saturday March 25 Hoërskool Goudrif faced off against Hoërskool President High in the NWU Super16 series.

The Pressies team had the privilege of playing in their new first team kit, but the game was always going to be tough for President as their hosts are well-known for the quality of their hockey.

The match got off to a very difficult start for the visitors when Goudies scored two early goals and unfortunately President High never recovered.

They did, however, show courage and although they were up against it never gave up or let their heads drop. They held out for the balance of the first half and even created a few opportunities of their own.

Makyla Potgieter was one of the standout players and she showcased her skills and agility throughout. Trisha Pretorius scored for the visitors before the game was called off early due to an injury.

At that stage the score was 4-1 to Goudies, but Coach Mrs Thomas was proud of the girls for their spirit and determination as well as the discipline displayed. They certainly would have learned from playing a strong team like Goudies and will be looking forward to the next game.

They have already notched up a 1-0 victory over Oprah, and drew 3-3 in a superb game with Birchleigh. Mrs Thomas noted that the NWU series was very good prep for the league next term.
