Brave neighbours help out

LEBO was one of the first people on the scene of his neighbour’s burning house on Estantia Avenue in South Hills, on Tuesday, April 4. He rushed into the burning house to turn off the main switch and salvage as much furniture as possible.
“I was at home watching TV when my mom called me and said our neighbour’s house was on fire. As I came out I saw that there was smoke coming from the windows. I jumped over the wall and broke the door to see whether there was someone in the house,” he said.
There was no one at home. He immediately turned off the main electrical supply switch.
Bystanders came to assist and removed some of the furniture from the burning house.
According to Lebo, they connected a hosepipe after calling the fire brigade to assist. By that point the fire had intensified.

The people in the house putting out the flames were afraid the ceiling might cave in.
The two fire engines arrived and the fire was contained.
Moffatview CPF and South Side Angels were on scene to help, too.

“The owner of the house is distraught. They have four children. They told me that although they lost everything, including their documentation and the children’s schoolbooks, they are grateful that the children were not home at the time.
