Another day to make a difference

THE Reformed Church (Gereformeerde Kerk) Johannesburg South youth group did it again.

Another soup kitchen was held July 1 and it was great fun and a huge success. The first one was on May 6.

The team managed to fill the stomachs of about 150 needy people in the surrounding area of the South Rand Hospital. Roy Singh, a very generous sponsor with no affiliation to the Reformed Church, donated several vegetables and eight packets of chicken to assist the youth group to make a difference.

The youth and congregation are very thankful and blessed to have received this donation. Half of the vegetables and chicken were used to prepare the soup for Saturday. The other half was prepared and frozen to use at the next soup kitchen on September 9.

Members of the congregation also lent a helping hand and made copious pots of soup to be handed out by the youth. The youth would like to thank the congregation and Mr Singh for helping them make a difference in the lives of those less fortunate than them. The location of the next soup kitchen has not yet been finalised, but will be announced closer to the date.

The youth and the Reformed Church Johannesburg South as a whole also reached out to the people affected by the Knysna disaster by donating blankets and cash, which were raised through various outreach projects and donations.
