Passion powered duo to propel community to new healthier heights
“We hope we can shift mindsets and have more people into fitness which would result in the less people getting involved with drugs.”
A PASSIONATE duo has teamed up to take back the streets of the south of Johannesburg as they bring fitness as an alternative to drug abuse.
Mafa Ntsele (30) and Zanele Mcube (27) believe fitness may be the key to saving a confused youth and bringing a healthier substitute to the lives of many.
Mcube said the boot camp, known as the ZA-Fit boot camp, hosted at the South Hills Recreation Center every Monday and Thursday was established to help everyone lead a healthy lifestyle.
She said the idea for the platform for healthy living was established simply to provide a free alternative for people who wanted to keep fit without a budget.
The boot camp was established for everyone and does not have a membership fee which she said gave no one an excuse for not going to the gym and living healthier.
“The idea was to provide a platform which motivated youth to be addicted to something positive. We often do a lot more activities such as hiking at the Kliprivier Nature Reserve where we often do other exercising routines. This is a lifestyle for us and brings us all closer,” Mcube said.
Her partner, Ntsele, said they were both into fitness which made sense to share it with people that wanted to keep fit.
“We wish other couples would do the same, sharing positive hobbies.”

He said a lot of people shied away from exercise and found excuses why they could not go to the gym. “We want to change that, especially in our community.”
Asked where they saw their organisation and boot camp headed, Ntsele said he hoped for more followers.
“We hope for more responses from sponsors as we can always use a helping hand. “We need more equipment because our membership numbers are increasing and we hope to accommodate everyone who wants to make a difference to themselves and their community.”
He said their boot camp was home to women who had heart conditions and wanted to do something about it.
“We don’t need much but we hope we can shift mindsets and have more people into fitness which would result in fewer people getting involved with drugs, especially the youth.
He said organisations that wanted to sponsor them could like their profile ZA-Fit on Facebook and Instagram or alternatively contact the COURIER.
