People share their Mandela Day deeds

MANDELA Day (July 18)promotes the celebration of good deeds and encourages all to do something kind for 67 minutes. Community members share what they chose to do to bring about some good in the world.

CLEANING PET BEDS: Chloë de Jonge and Alexia Varias, friends and residents from Alberante said: “We offered our 67 minutes to the Alberton SPCA. We love animals, especially dogs. We helped clean the pet beds and washed their blankets. It was definitely worth it, despite the trouble.”
LOVES CHILDREN: Getrude Shange, a resident from Eden Park, said: “I brought children to the Mandela day event at the Alberton Library for 67 minutes of fun. I just love Nelson Mandela. He had a big passion for children.”
CLEANING CAGES: Courtney Sequeira, a resident from Brackenhurst said: “I chose to go to the Alberton SPCA and help my mom clean the dogs’ cages. I love animals and I really want them to get nice homes.”
Mikaila Martin, a resident from Eikenhof said: “I joined my friend in cleaning the dogs’ cages and blankets at the Alberton SPCA. If their cages are clean, people will be more attracted to adopt them.”
TEACHING CHILDREN: Josephine Kodisang, a resident from Alberton said: “I celebrated Mandela Day with colleagues and children. I played with them and taught them about Madiba. He always tried to improve education and shared love everywhere he went.”
