A MESSAGE circulating on social media has created panic amongst Turffontein residents.
In the message circulating on the popular social media platform Whatsapp, a message warns motorists to avoid smelling any perfume-like substances sold in parking lots.
The message continues to warn motorists that the sold perfumes are actually drugs used to incapacitate motorists before kidnapping them.
Booysens police spokesperson Captain Lorraine Van Emmerik said there were no cases of this nature. No reports of a victim involved in such a scam had been reported at the station to date. She said any member of the public who experienced an incident of that nature should contact their nearest police station.
The COURIER is still investigating which areas had experienced the ‘perfumed parking lot’ scam.
In the message, it is implied that the warning was instigated by a senior police official; however, the police could not confirm issuing the message.
