Always be on your guard

As crime increases in the Mondeor Policing area, community members are advised to be extra vigilant at all times.

MONDEOR SAPS has been experiencing a rise in crimes – mainly car hijacking, armed robbery and theft of motor vehicles.

Victims are being targeted while walking on the streets or when they are in their vehicles that are parked outside the gate. There is also a trend where contract workers or people who work for Telkom are targeted in public spaces. Their bakkies are stolen or hijacked. Suspects threaten the victims with knives or firearms or steal the vehicle while the driver is working on the site.

Be on the lookout for:

  • A white Toyota Etios with four black males involved in an armed robbery in Lark Street, Meredale.
  • A blue VW Golf GTI with two African male suspects involved in stealing stuff out of motor vehicles in the Mondeor area.
  • Always be vigilant and aware of your surroundings.
  • Do not enter your garage or a parking area if you believe that you are being followed.
  • Do not stop when someone or another motorist indicates a flat wheel on your vehicle.
  • Don’t pick up hitch-hikers or strangers.
  • Don’t leave your vehicle door open and the engine running while opening the gate. Criminals can act quicker than expected.
  • Vary routes to and from work or shops.

Arrest

A male (30) was arrested in connection with attempted murder on September 10 at about 12.50am along the Golden Highway, after SAPS received information that the suspects were involved in a car hijacking in Cleveland.

SAPS gave chase and the suspects started shooting at the police who shot back. One suspect was shot and injured and the other two fled and left their vehicle. The suspect is under police guard in hospital.
