SWASTHI Delights is a small business in the south that is run by Paalini Naidoo (39) from her home in Mulbarton.
Naidoo has been cooking and baking for about a decade now and delights in giving her family and friends fresh eats and treats. The hard-working wife and mother of four has been residing in Mulbarton for about three years now and started her little business in March. She was born in Durban and completed high school in Lenasia after which she worked for the Gauteng Department of Health for 20 years. She always enjoyed cooking and baking for extra money.
After resigning earlier this year, she decided to kick off her own little business. Naidoo also enjoys crocheting for the needy, gardening, entertaining friends and reading. Her favourite dishes to bake are apple crumble tarts and chocolate chip cookies, but this was not how she began her baking career.
“My first cake was a Barbie doll cake that I made for my niece for her first birthday. That was my first attempt at baking a cake and it took me about six to seven hours to make,” said Naidoo.
Naidoo makes roti, lamb curry, chicken curry, butter chicken, lasagne, chicken and mushroom pies, kebabs, fish cakes, biscuits, apple crumble, banana loaf, cupcakes, scones, blueberry cake, carrot cake, birthday and wedding cakes not forgetting lamb, chicken, potato and sweet corn or cheese samoosas.
Making all her eats on a daily basis means her day starts very early. She starts with her roti at 4am and by 5.30am she feeds the birds in her little outside bird sanctuary. At 6am she starts getting her children ready for school and drops them off. At 8.30am she begins with her orders for the day. The popular choices are the biscuits and chocolate chip cookies. She shops daily and prefers to serve her clients fresh food.
“Cooking with love provides food for the soul,” is Naidoo’s favourite quote.
