FOUR suspects are on the run after hijacking a 33-year-old man on May 7 on the N12 to Delmas.
The victim was saved after Mondeor police officers went in hot pursuit of a blue VW Polo that sped off when they tried to stop it in Eikenhof.
According to Mondeor SAPS communications officer Captain Nokulunga Dube, the officers were conducting a stop-and-search operation in Eikenhof at about 9pm. They noticed a blue VW Polo and tried to stop the vehicle, but the four suspects sped off instead.
Police chased the vehicle, but the suspects abandoned it and ran away.
The officers searched the vehicle and found the victim tied up in the back.
The victim said he was hijacked on the N12 to Delmas at about 8pm.
A case of hijacking has been opened and investigations are underway.

Mondeor SAPS arrested 54 suspects between May 3 and May 10. The charges included: driving under the influence of alcohol – 22; assault GBH – 1; possession of dagga – 2; house break-in and theft – 1; possession of stolen property – 1; shoplifting and theft – 12; malicious damage to property – 1; drinking in public – 11; culpable homicide – 1; theft of motor vehicle – 1; and contempt of court – 1.
