The sewage is causing an unbearable smell and the mess has now flooded the entire Forest Street.
Children play in this water which is a health hazard and residents complain they can’t cook and enjoy a proper meal because of the awful smell.
According to residents, the City comes and fixes the pipe and after a few days the same problem resurfaces again stating that people’s houses have even been flooded with the same mess which includes used condoms, tissues, papers and plastic.

Mavies Gatsheni said: “This filthy water hold us under siege because we can’t even take a walk. Even worse, my relatives don’t want to visit me because of this health hazard. Some residents sell veggies and fruits and their businesses are badly affected because of this spill. Residents are scared to buy goods from them because they believe that the goods are smelling too. The city needs to do something quickly because we can’t live in this health hazard.”
The residents were able to provide a reference number that they were given by Joburg Water but they are still waiting for help.

The COURIER contacted Joburg Water and is awaiting comment.
