Beware of hijackers posing as JMPD officers

“This matter was discussed at high levels at SAPS and we hope that a breakthrough can be made soon. If in doubt, do not stop for blue lights in unmarked vehicles."

ON Saturday, August 18, a hijacking took place in Liefde en Vrede, when a woman was followed by a white VW Polo with blue lights and the occupants posing as Johannesburg Metro Police Department officers (JMPD).

They took the woman and her Mercedes. Both were later recovered. According to Mike Fontes (Mondeor Sector 1 CPF head): “This matter was discussed at high levels at SAPS and we hope that a breakthrough can be made soon. If in doubt, do not stop for blue lights in unmarked vehicles. Rather drive to your closest police station, security company office or at least an area that you know has good CCTV cameras such as a local petrol station or shopping centre.”
