Boesak sentenced to 16 years’ imprisonment for murder of son

Ward 55 councillor Rashieda Landis has been vocal during this case, she has been following the case since last year.

SEISAX Boesak was sentenced to an effective 16 years in prison for the murder, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and common assault in Caleb Ouman’s case at a High Court sitting in Palm Ridge on August 31.

The sentencing came just after a year since the Chrisville five-year-old Caleb died after Seisax assaulted him. He succumbed to his injuries on his way to the hospital.

During the trial, it was established that Seisax had used a belt to whip the child, smacked his head and used a cigarette to make the burns found on the child’s body. He claimed throughout the trial the reason he had abused the child, on more than just the one occasion, was because he had heard rumours in his neighbourhood the young boy had been having sex with other boys.

Ward 55 councillor Rashieda Landis has been vocal during this case, she has been following the case since last year.

“The sentencing of Seisax Boesak will never be a fair sentence. Murder and assault with intent are inhumane and unacceptable. No person should be allowed back into normal society after such a horrendous act. This is not targeted at any family member of the Boesak family. They are not responsible for these crimes. I made peace with the sentencing.

“This will never bring Caleb back. It will never heal his mother and family. Our justice system needs to re-look how it deals with the murder of our children. I hope the little boy can now rest in peace,” said Landis.
